Dany's RaaD Roundup

The Week in The Daily Show and Colbert Report for February 21, 2010

It would be interesting if the recent revolutions in TunisiaYemen, Egypt and many other countries in the region, lead the people if Iran to be able topple the government that they couldn’t topple after their last election.

January Jones (who does a great job on Mad Men, but I still have yet to see their latest season) is just cute as a button as she promotes her new movie Unknown (and you know how that worked out for me from my last post when I went to see the preview for it).

So far, proposals to cut the budget have only dealt with non-defense and non-medicare/medicaid/social security. The problem is that when you combine all those spending programs, that makes up over 80% of all federal government spending, so any cuts in spending not related to those programs, is just shaving off the top layer of snow from the iceberg that sunk the titanic. Until both parties get together and start talking about real spending cuts to the rest of the 80% of government spending (like how congress just voted to cut a military spending program on the F-35 fighter jet that the military did not even want anymore), all this is just one big kabuki theater. Although I must say, John Hodgman‘s got some interesting fiscal ideas!

John interviews Republican State Leadership Committee Ed Gillespie. I think I will miss Michael Steele being the spotlight Republican organizer, because even though I don’t agree with some of Mr. Gillespie’s conclusions, he is much more measured and interesting to listen to.

David Albright attempts to explain to Colbert the Stuxnet program, the damage it caused and what it could mean in terms of potential war… with a lot of help from Christiane Amanpour.

It is time to celebrate another edition of Tip of My Hat/Wag of My Finger. Colbert tackles such issues as the sale of the Huffington Post to AOL, wales and trash tv.

I love when secret memos get leaked out, especially when it makes news organizations seem petty and stupid. Thanks Fox News!

Clarence Thomas is again in the news, he has an illustrious history of scandal in the news, but any time a high profile lawyer/judge has problems filling out legal documents, it makes the news.

Jeffrey Leonard tries to explain how many big businesses are increasingly paying their small business contractors for their services anywhere from 30-90 days later than the small businesses have to pay for their own costs and how this change is really hurting the ability of small businesses from running efficiently, growing and hiring new people themselves.

The TSA, Daily Show, Colbert Report and Conan for the Week of November 20th, 2010

I’m getting sick of the utter insanity at airports around the world now with naked body radiation scanners and invasive pat-downs/feel-ups. It looks like the German Pirate Party has too, check how they are protesting at airports! I support their efforts. Once terrorists have us completely changing our lives for fear of terrorism, the terrorists have already won. Thanks Dvorak.

Ron Paul is also fed up with the situation. Thanks to Dvorak Uncensored and No Agenda (subscribe here) for getting these videos to my attention.

The No Agenda show has been talking about the absurdity of airport security for a long time now, but it’s starting to finally hit the national mainstream media and even being made fun of on late night Colbert now.

Oh how we look at the past with rose colored glasses. I don’t remember the Republicans liking President Bill Clinton, maybe you remember things differently.

John McCain keeps changing his criteria on what would get him to support the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, he keeps pushing the goal posts farther and farther back. I used to respect Senator McCain a lot more, back in 2000 when he actually gave strait talk on issues. My guess is that after the US Military officially reports on the survey they conducted on this issue on December 1st, sometime between then and when Congress goes into winter recess, the issue will be voted on and the rules will change and gays will be able to serve openly, but until then, watch the shifting positions of John McCain.

Representative Charlie Rangel seems to exude exactly the type of corruption that shows that there is even less of a difference between Republican rule breakers and Democrat rule breakers and when you know you have got a lock on your own voting district, the audacity of breaking the rules is that much easier, even some rules you might have even helped shape.

It’s so sad that with so many flagrant violations the House convicted him of, the worst he will probably get is a letter of reprimand.

I love Luis Black, it’s interesting what crazy crap he’s pulling out. Who knew that San Francisco was considering a ban on circumcision?

Bethany McLean & Joe Nocera talk about how the financial meltdown started and what could have changed to avoid that meltdown. Their new book reporting on the entire affair in All the Devils are Here.

I guess it is hard to have an adult conversation with anyone in Congress, when they won’t even give you a strait answer on even some of the most simple topics. I’m so glad the grownups are back in Washington!

George Soros and/or Rupert Murdoch is THE Puppetmaster behind a secret government, according to Glenn Beck/Jon Stewart, interesting… my brain hurts.

Conan O’Brien meets his new censor at TBS, watch as he tests the waters with cable. It’s pretty funny to see how this unveils. In case the below video doesn’t work, watch it here

I don’t know what happened with this interview with Julie Bowen, the entire thing is hilarious and it completely went off the rails! In case the below video doesn’t work, watch it here
