Dany's RaaD Roundup

This Week in The Daily Show and Colbert Report for December 4th, 2010

It’s nice to know that the biggest revelation coming from the latest wikileaks file release basically consists of international cattyness and information that we basically already knew.

Can we finally end Don’t Ask Don’t Tell already? If they are already there, let them stay, they already want to volunteer to do the job that other Americans didn’t want to do. I don’t know what battle Senator McCain is fighting, but while he keeps fighting against his old views, this issue just won’t die. Last time I checked, America has a civilian controlled military, all these surveys about what the soldiers think is trumped up anyway, the way our Constitution is written, if the civilian government wants to change the rules for the military, it is their decision to make and I hope they decide to repeal DADT, it is time.

Here is an interesting interview with Stacy Schiff, the author of the new book Cleopatra: A Life… I only found out this month that Cleopatra wasn’t Egyptian, but of Greek/Macedonian decent!

Product placement is annoying and can really take you out of a movie or tv show, but there comes a point when the placement lasts so long and is so blatant that it goes beyond bad and back to amazing… I think soap operas now have hit that point. Why not, the whole name soap opera was thus named because soap companies were originally trying to sell their products to housewives.

Colbert interviews David Stockman, the Director of the Office of Management and Budget during the Reagan administration. He is promoting the idea of letting the tax cuts expire while cutting spending on defense.

The TSA, Daily Show, Colbert Report and Conan for the Week of November 20th, 2010

I’m getting sick of the utter insanity at airports around the world now with naked body radiation scanners and invasive pat-downs/feel-ups. It looks like the German Pirate Party has too, check how they are protesting at airports! I support their efforts. Once terrorists have us completely changing our lives for fear of terrorism, the terrorists have already won. Thanks Dvorak.

Ron Paul is also fed up with the situation. Thanks to Dvorak Uncensored and No Agenda (subscribe here) for getting these videos to my attention.

The No Agenda show has been talking about the absurdity of airport security for a long time now, but it’s starting to finally hit the national mainstream media and even being made fun of on late night Colbert now.

Oh how we look at the past with rose colored glasses. I don’t remember the Republicans liking President Bill Clinton, maybe you remember things differently.

John McCain keeps changing his criteria on what would get him to support the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, he keeps pushing the goal posts farther and farther back. I used to respect Senator McCain a lot more, back in 2000 when he actually gave strait talk on issues. My guess is that after the US Military officially reports on the survey they conducted on this issue on December 1st, sometime between then and when Congress goes into winter recess, the issue will be voted on and the rules will change and gays will be able to serve openly, but until then, watch the shifting positions of John McCain.

Representative Charlie Rangel seems to exude exactly the type of corruption that shows that there is even less of a difference between Republican rule breakers and Democrat rule breakers and when you know you have got a lock on your own voting district, the audacity of breaking the rules is that much easier, even some rules you might have even helped shape.

It’s so sad that with so many flagrant violations the House convicted him of, the worst he will probably get is a letter of reprimand.

President Barak Obama Takes Over The Daily Show the week of October 29th

President Obama spends the entire episode of The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. You don’t need my comments on it, so all I will say is if you are eligible to vote in this year’s election just go out and vote.

From 1989-2010 John McCain has been deriding the broken Washington system. I could do without the bit of ageism from Stewart, but other than that, it is another example of the great video archive search work they do on the show.

NPR may be a lot of things for firing Juan Williams, but I doubt they’re an agent of a jihadi inquisition! Fox News doesn’t just fight back, they always bring the big guns with them. I think some of these “scandals” are just ways to fill time in the 24 hour news cycle. If you read the press from NPR as to why they fired Mr. Williams, it has just as much to do with Mr. Williams’ constantly appearing on Fox News in a manner that NPR did not like.

I have no problem with senators like Tom Coburn holding up bills, but I do have a problem the Senate having rules for secret holds to bills of any kind. I believe there are some topics so sensitive to national security that they be kept secret, but that’s about all that should be secret in politics, everything else should be open and exposed to harsh daylight for people to decide if they like what the people they voted into office are doing for or to the country

I guess when something is not a part of military policy, it never ever happens. Being gay or strait should have no bearing if you want to volunteer to be a part of the US miliatary, if you are brave enough to join and can pass the requirements everyone else has to pass, that should be all that is needed. It is cowardly that Congress is waiting until December, when the military survey on how best to integrate the policy change is finished, since it was undertaken in anticipation of the law being changed, not to ask the soldiers IF it should be changed.

The Daily Show Review for September 11th, 2010

Today is the 9th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the USA. It would have been nice to present news that was more appropriate to the day, but most of the news this week that registered in the media was just about as negative as you can get. I hope you can find the humor in some of these clips to help make you laugh and enjoy this sad anniversary.

Here are some clips mostly from The Daily Show that revolve around Islam in America, building mosques, burning holy books and the crazy people that make the news.

Who knew to be afraid of Staten Island… even when you agree with their ultimate decision on jurisprudence?!!? You have to love democracy.

Meghan McCain seems to be a part of the Republican party that I wish existed, but seems to continuously get drown out by those that are more firey and negative in her party. Ms. McCain makes some interesting comments about being on the campaign trail, especially concerning the Palins and how childrens’ images can rub off on their political parents. I can hope that one day her ideal of the Republican party wins out over the abrasive party currently in the news, I just don’t see it happening any time soon.

Maybe we can take some good news hot off the presses now, that there will be no Qurans burned by the radical Florida pastor, instead, he is in NYC today to try and meet with the people that want to build the lower Manhattan mosque.

President Obama’s Pledge to Repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell

According to the Obameter, the site that has been monitoring all 500+ campaign promises that candidate Barack Obama made in running for president, repealing the Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell military policy is promise #293, recently the House of Representatives has helped to push this promise that much closer to fulfillment and it’s up to the Senate now and if the Senate passes a similar measure, it would just take the completion of the military’s investigation on how best to change their policy in December to fulfill this promise for President Obama to change this policy. On President Obama’s site now, he’s asking for people to sign up to stand behind him in repealing the policy, so if you believe that the policy should be repealed, head over to:

http://my.barackobama.com/page/content/repealdadt

and add your name in support.
