The Hangover 2 Review

I was glad that even with the pending legal battle over the facial tattoo made famous by Mike Tyson that was also featured plastered on the  face of Ed Helms (see above) in The Hangover 2, that the film actually was released on time for this holiday weekend.

The film itself though, is none too different from the original Hangover. So, you can take that two ways, if you loved the original, you will enjoy what is basically the same movie, just this time replace the backdrop of Las Vegas with Bangkok, Thailand. There is a lot that was not necessary in this film, like why was there a car chase in this comedy or why is this group (wolf pack) of guys actually friends with each other (Galifianakis not included)?

I know I will not remember much about this movie’s plot or many of the jokes, but just as with the first film, I will definitely remember the montage during the credits that actually chronicles the bachelor party night and how impressed I was with that trained monkey (on a side note, probably the most memorable on-screen monkey since Friends).

Regardless though, I know I had a lot of fun just watching the film unfold with all its one-off jokes. I enjoyed just letting the madness flow over me for 100 minutes.

Thanks to Hangover 2 trailer for the above pic.

Enjoy

A Template for How All News is Reported and Food Network’s Sandra Lee Insane Montage

One of the best things to come out of No Agenda show 306 (subscribe here), is this 2 minute audio clip of the basic template used for how to broadcast all news stories (listen here).

Here is a great montage that shows just how formulaic Sandra Lee‘s Food Network show is. Watch for an extra special moment that seems to come from nowhere as well.

Thanks to Pearl for sending over that montage.

This Week in The Daily Show and Colbert Report for January 16th, 2010

Never forget, advancing age does not decrease intellect or sexual desire, it may increase refractory time, but enjoy this piece about sex amongst Florida’s elderly population.

I have never seen anyone promote a book like Denis Leary and I have also never seen an interviewer hilariously insult the book and the author as much as with this interview. You can check out Suck on This Year here.

Here is an interesting look at history and I would not want to read any version of Adventures of Huckleberry Finn that took out “the N word.” What would happen if we took all the Martin Luther King Jr. speeches where he used the word “negro” and replaced it with “African American?” There would be an uproar. I have also never heard of anyone publishing any of Thomas Jefferson‘s writings with his language white-washed either. Please just read the entire uncensored version here or get it from Amazon.

All hail stupid, hastily put together and poorly thought through law proposals following a tragic event! Is it really good to know that a government for the people, by the people can end us up with officially that are just as stupid as some of the rest of us?

Watch this extended interview with former governor (and most likely Republican Presidential candidate in 2014) Tim Pawlenty. He and Jon have an interesting discussion about the role of the federal government. He has a new book out called Courage to Stand.

The TSA, Daily Show, Colbert Report and Conan for the Week of November 20th, 2010

I’m getting sick of the utter insanity at airports around the world now with naked body radiation scanners and invasive pat-downs/feel-ups. It looks like the German Pirate Party has too, check how they are protesting at airports! I support their efforts. Once terrorists have us completely changing our lives for fear of terrorism, the terrorists have already won. Thanks Dvorak.

Ron Paul is also fed up with the situation. Thanks to Dvorak Uncensored and No Agenda (subscribe here) for getting these videos to my attention.

The No Agenda show has been talking about the absurdity of airport security for a long time now, but it’s starting to finally hit the national mainstream media and even being made fun of on late night Colbert now.

Oh how we look at the past with rose colored glasses. I don’t remember the Republicans liking President Bill Clinton, maybe you remember things differently.

John McCain keeps changing his criteria on what would get him to support the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, he keeps pushing the goal posts farther and farther back. I used to respect Senator McCain a lot more, back in 2000 when he actually gave strait talk on issues. My guess is that after the US Military officially reports on the survey they conducted on this issue on December 1st, sometime between then and when Congress goes into winter recess, the issue will be voted on and the rules will change and gays will be able to serve openly, but until then, watch the shifting positions of John McCain.

Representative Charlie Rangel seems to exude exactly the type of corruption that shows that there is even less of a difference between Republican rule breakers and Democrat rule breakers and when you know you have got a lock on your own voting district, the audacity of breaking the rules is that much easier, even some rules you might have even helped shape.

Super Mario Audiobook Miniature, The Daily Show and Colbert Report Roundup for the Week of November 13th, 2010

I came across this audio short story from the Podcastle series (subscribe here) called Mario’s Three Lives. Anyone who grew up playing the Mario franchise of games should enjoy this 8min short audio story, I know I did! How can you go wrong with any story rated Rated PG “for plumbers, philosophy, and good ol’ fashioned shrooms?” The story is by Matt Bell:
Mario’s Three Lives

Jon Stewart comments on all the people commenting on his Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear, then about Keith Olbermann’s suspension. Later in the week Jon Stewart sats down for Rachel Maddow to interview him for 50min. He talks about the reaction to his recent rally in Washington, DC. He then talks about how he tries to see the political news as a climate scientist compared to the 24hr cable news channels that seem to only report the weather. It’s a great interview.

Debunking the huge costs that Glenn Beck and Fox News commented on, which probably costs more like ~$5million/day, what’s being wrong by overestimating costs by ~$195million/day when you can insult President Obama‘s decision making for a week? Ernest Borgnine is being interviewed by Fox & Friends and he reveals how he stays looking so young, even though he’s 91 years old… enjoy!

Apparently, in the 1940’s American scientists intentionally gave Guatemalans syphilis to test penicillin in treating this and the NIH funded this! This Guatemala experiment is some of the most despicable research ever conducted on humans and it is very hard to find experiments that are worse than the Tuskegee syphilis studies. You don’t have to watch the 2nd half of that clip, the Jason Jones‘ segment about the military wasn’t very good.

I do not like the idea of strategic defaults, but it is not a new concept and if any party that signs a financial contract is willing to take that hit to their credit score and walk away from their morgage, let them. When busineses walk away from corporate offices, there’s no reason why homeowners should be shamed into paying into a morgage that no longer makes financial sense either.

Personal freedom vs health and protection is tough. As a medical student, I know how bad it can be for people to drink raw, unpasteurized milk, so I would prefer that people only drink pasteurized milk. At the same time however, I do believe that Americans have the inherent freedom to do things that may not be in their best interests. I would say that the government just treat foods like raw milk in the same way they treat other dangerous lifestyle choices like smoking. Mandate warning labels be placed on the bottles of milk that inform those that buy the milk of the possible negative side effects of drinking that milk and then let fully informed consumers decide for themselves what they want to put in their own body.

Proposition 19 to legalize marijuana is back in the media. I don’t think marijuana is all that good for you, medically it has its uses, but as for recreational use, I say legalize it, tax it and regulate it as we already do for alcohol, tobacco and firearms. If people want to do it in their home and not hurt anyone else, fine by me, just don’t endanger anyone else by, for example, do not drive while high. Treat it the same way we do alcohol and tobacco.

The Daily Show Recap for August 28th, 2010

It has been a while since I’ve done a Daily Show roundup. Here are a few select stories from the past week:

Jon Stewart points out that the man FoxNews’ morning show Fox & Friends has been railing against (Alwaleed bin Talal) for funding the Imam that wants to build a mosque near the World Trade Center is also the same man who is the largest shareholder in Fox News’ parent News Corp outside of Rupert Murdoch’s family as well as being someone invited to meetings with former President G.W. Bush.

Here is a clip of Prince Alwaleed bin Talal on Fox News showing the connection that Fox News has with the man they now rail against without naming him specifically

After Rod Blagojevich was convicted on 1 count of lying to the FBI, he does an extended interview with Jon here

Before I talk about this next clip about the Dr. Laura “scandal,” let me just say,  this annoying story is just another example of a public figure confusing the difference between the 1st amendmant’s right to free speech and what most people confuse that right to mean. The 1st amendment does not give the right to say whatever you want and then expect no one to get mad or offended when you exercise their right to free speech. The 1st ammendment guarantees that the government will not punish you for exercising the freedom to speak your mind. Just like you have the right to free speech, others have the right to be mad at the words you say.

Here is an interesting look at how Sarah Palin reacted to the whole Dr. Laura N-word story and a way to say a bunch of funny ethnic slurs on air, so if you don’t want to hear a plethura of slurs, don’t watch this next clip (don’t tell me I didn’t warn you)

The Daily Show Roundup for the week of April 16th, 2010

I enjoy The Daily Show, but I don’t always agree with it. This week started off with a story that makes fun of a group of people who openly carry around firearms legally around their town on a daily basis. The main representative may have sounded silly in how he compared the way he feels he’s treated because he openly carries a gun, but I don’t find any problem with anyone legally carrying a pistol, just as everyone has within limits to legal free speech in the 1st amendment, so should people have similar rights afforded by the 2nd amendment.

It is interesting to hear the justifications of Glenn Beck on cable news as to who should pay federal taxes.

Jon Stewart tries to show the Tea Party movement why they should distance themselves from some of the crazier aspects of the Republican party.

Rachel Maddow comes on to promote her new special 2 hour documentary of the 30+ hours of Timothy McVeigh interviews, confessions and reasons for perpetuating the largest act of domestic terrorism on US soil, called The McVeigh Tapes: Confessions of an American Terrorist. At the same time she talks about what she feels should be the limits of public rhetoric in political speech: 1. Don’t lie or expect to be called out when you lie and 2. Don’t threaten to shoot people.

With the Catholic church and the current Pope coming under more intense public scrutiny over priest abuse of children of the clergy, John Hodgman has a few solutions in his You’re Welcome segment.

I’m happy to find out that the Obama administration aren’t scary secret muslims, just nerds… it’s too bad so much time on Fox News was devoted to talking about flags and symbols instead of the actual goings on from the 47 country Nuclear Security Summit that President Obama held.

Former diplomat and negotiator of the original nuclear arms START treaty Richard Burt talks about the current iteration of the New START treaty and his organization Global Zero.

From the Richard Burt interview above, I am glad to find out that President Obama and Russian President Medvedev have seemed to forge a good close relationship, but I am not a huge fan of President Medvedev coming to our country with veiled insults for our former leaders, we don’t go over to Russia and make fun of former President Putin or Gorbechov when interviewed, just like we don’t go over to foreign soil and make fun of America either.

On the lighter side, Tracy Morgan lights it up with another hilarious guest spot, it’s insane and gut busting as usual.

OK Go – This Too Shall Pass – Rube Goldberg Machine Video

The band OK GO burst onto the music video scene with Here It Goes Again performed on treadmills (video below). Now, their latest bit of insanity has them going through a giant Rube Goldberg machine with This Too Shall Pass. There isn’t much to say, other than the fact that it took them over 80 takes, completing the entire sequence 3 times to put this video together (TWIT Special 14 [subscribe] video creator interview and Net@Night 145 [subscribe] band interview). This band definitely has some flair.

Here’s there official site and here is the Amazon.com OK GO page if you want any of their work.

Thanks to the lovely Lucy for turning me on to this most recent video.
