Movie Trailer Saturday

First on the list is The Bucket List, with black-Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman. This is looks like a buddy buddy movie where two dying men start out hating each other and decide to do all the things they they wish they could do before they kick the bucket, get it? It is directed by Rob Reiner and it looks perfectly entertaining in a Rob Reiner sort of way (not a big box office smash, but a movie that will probably slowly bring in a lot of money for the studio), the man has made some great movies, he just hasn’t done so in over a decade.

HD Trailer here, provided by Apple trailers, the quick and dirty version below:

Next is Jimmy Carter: Man From Plains, a documentary about Jimmy Carter by director Jonathan Demme, which seems to look at the life of President Jimmy Carter from the time he left office to current day.

Then, there’s Be Kind Rewind, written and directed by Michel Gondry, a movie about two idiots running a video store and one of them (Jack Black) accidentally erases all their vhs tapes (maybe the movie takes place in the early 1990’s, since I haven’t seen a vhs tape since… wait, what’s a vhs tape you ask? Nevermind) and they decide to try and recreate all the movies they lost by reshooting them all themselves. It looks pretty funny, the only problem is that Mos Def stars next to Black in the film and after giving a forgettable performance in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy I was unimpressed, but after my buddy, Seán, told me how bad he was in 16 Blocks, he promptly found it on one of the movie channels and after watching less than 5 minutes of his performance I had to turn off 16 Blocks… we’ll see, maybe Danny Glover or Mia Farrow will be able to bring some goodness to the film to help support, what I can only assume will be a Jack Black struggling to carry Mos Def through the movie.

Thanks to Yahoo trailers for the HD version, but you can watch it here too.

Also, I stumbled upon the newest joint venture between Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, which also stars Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall and Sacha Baron Cohen. The film looks like Burton combined the visual styles of the dark, almost monochromatic Sleepy Hollow with interspersed moments of extremely bright colorful scenes somewhat like in Big Fish (one of the few Tim Burton films I really didn’t like at all). This is something I am really looking forward to, I love the creepiness that scenes seem to have between Depp and Carter.

Now, for the surprise of the post, the movie that… well, surprised me: Enchanted. The trailer starts out showing clips from some of the most famous Disney movies of all time, which I thought was a bad idea (having the movie compare itself to so many good movies, the trailer had better be REAL impressive), then it reveals that it’s a fairy tale movie that starts as a cartoon, then the characters get magically transported into present day NYC. After seeing the whole trailer, I realized my initial qualms seemed unwarranted after all. The movie stars Susan Sarandon, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden and Amy Adams and it looks like a hilarious take on every single fairy tale theme with moments that should make adults laugh just as hard as the kids they will be bringing to the theater. Also, Susan Sarandon looks like she’s chewing on every single scene she’s in, it looks like a lot of fun. After being so pleasantly treated by seeing Stardust this past summer, I look forward to trying my hand at another fairy tale movie.

Here’s the HD trailer, brought to you thanks to the great Apple trailers, but you can watch it here faster

Enjoy

David Lynch Does Gucci

I’ve seen my share of commercials as well as more than my fair share of movies, but the idea that David Lynch would be directing a Gucci commercial is just mind blowing, not to mention, a really BAD commercial. Sure Catherine Zeta-Jones and Tom Jones can hock T-Mobile while Arnold Schwarzenegger can shill for… whatever this Japanese energy drink is both here: and here: and Alyssa Milano can sing for crazy Japanse pasta all she wants

but it would have been better if Lynch had gotten Dennis Hopper to suck some air from his breathing mask, only to find out it wasn’t air, but Gucci fragrance all along or maybe get Kyle MacLachlan to take over a sand planet by spraying Gucci by Gucci (yes Gucci the company named the fragrance Gucci, creative, no?) on the evil galactic overloards oppressing the people of said sand planet or better still, have Naomi Watts and Laura Harring start making out after spraying a few spritzes of Gucci. Now THAT would be a good commercial! Where’s my Academy Award?

Thanks to iwatchstuff (who also deserves to win an Academy Award for awesome) for the heads up with the video. Watch the commercial below.
